Yohji Yamamoto/V&A
Exhibition & Publication
Spring 2011

YES collaborated with Peter Saville on the art direction and design for the retrospective exhibition of Yohji Yamamoto's work. Under the direction of Saville, YES was responsible for all visual material produced for show. Elements included a 192 page case‑bound book, print campaign, exhibition graphics, private view invites, exhibition guide and signage around the V&A. Main campaign image shot by Nick Knight, who alongside Peter Saville and Marc Ascoli, had created the defining Yohji campaigns of the 80s and 90s.

M.A.P
Identity & Website
Summer 2011

M.A.P are a creative management agency, representing the top tier of fashion photography and styling talent worldwide. Commissioned by founder Julie Brown, YES proposed a complete overhaul of visual communication both digitally and in print. One key aspect of our approach for the site was to emphasise the high‑quality news output that was previously published on a separate platform. We repositioned the news to become the primary page of the site giving an immediate overview of recent activity in the agency.

Creative Direction
2010–

In early 2010 YES were commissioned to creatively direct a series of key McCartney re‑releases. The ongoing project encompasses creative direction, branding, packaging, editorial consultancy and book design. The form of the high‑end deluxe edition (pictured) was conceived as an alternative to the more familiar, box set formats, taking inspiration from high‑end art and photography books, rather than music packaging. For each release extensive research within the McCartney archive is necessary to build a complete document of the period surrounding the original release. An as yet unanounced ‘super‑deluxe’ release is due spring 2012.

Jenny van Sommers
Identity & Website
Spring 2011

Photographer Jenny van Sommers commissioned YES to create an identity and site that was clean, super‑minimal and reflected the pristine quality of her images. We developed a bespoke typeface that would be used across stationery and screen. The site was simply divided into three categories reflecting her output. Each section overview is realised as a dynamic, organically layed‑out page which can foreground key projects. We created tools within the site CMS to allow Jenny’s studio to create new layouts to best suit any recently added work.

Warp20
Creative Direction
Summer 2009

Warp Records comissioned YES to create the identity and visual material for their 20th anniversary — Warp20. The imagery we conceived aimed to reflect the iconic, ever evolving nature of the label and it's place in British music. We comissioned the fabrication of a large scale 3D möbius strip to be photographed in various environments around the country. In collaboration with photographic artist Dan Holdsworth 20 images were produced to mark the labels connection to the UK. The centrepiece of the project was the Warp20 (Box Set), a super‑deluxe, limited edition release comprising exclusive content and music in a high spec package.

Book Works
Online Archive & Shop
Autumn 2011

Book Works is an art publisher with an output spanning over 25 years. We were asked to rethink their online presence to accurately reflect the organisations current activities and enable the purchase of books through the site. The project took the form of a deep archive of searchable content, covering publications, events, resources and exhibitions. We flipped the convention of a vertically scrolling site in order to create an almost infinite horizontal page, allowing books and other material to be presented in a systematic, visually consistent manner.

CLM Magazine
Publication
Winter 2011

Fashion photography agency CLM comissioned YES to create a magazine to promote their artists. We developed a format and picture edit that allowed each photographer a double page spread to isolate their work and allow visual consistency throughout. Text was typeset in continuous blocks on the cover and back pages, agency name and photographer were featured vertically on image pages to remain discreet. Superior print quality and colour reproduction were essential; a high‑quality, super‑matte paper was specified and the publication featured singer‑sewn binding.

Dan Holdsworth
Online Archive
Winter 2010

British artist Dan Holdsworth comissioned us to rethink how he was represented online. We made a site that is archival in both it's image and text content. All major works are grouped to form a project index, the viewer is then able to navigate through to large format images that reveal the detail and subtly within the work. In recognition of Dan's practise, current and past exhibitions are documented, in addition to the presentation of essays published elsewhere. We are collaborating with Dan on a book to be published in spring 2012.
